The world food price crisis ↗ — Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)
After Hurricane Noel damaged the fall harvest, world food and fuel prices surged. Food, fuel, and transport make up two-thirds of Haiti's CPI; inflation rose from 7.9 percent in September 2007 to 16.5 percent in April 2008 as protests erupted.
- 2010↑ Upward pressure
The 2010 earthquake ↗ — Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)
The January 2010 earthquake disrupted ports, airports, transport and storage. Reconstruction-related aid and supply bottlenecks were expected to raise inflation to about 8 percent in FY2011 and FY2012.
- 2022↑ Upward pressure
The gourde's collapse ↗ — Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)
Global commodity and food shocks met severe domestic supply constraints in 2022, lifting headline inflation. The gourde's nominal depreciation then reinforced the price pressure through import costs.
These are selected historical influences, not a complete account of inflation. An upward-pressure event can coincide with a peak when its inflationary effect has already occurred or when other forces begin pushing inflation lower. The markers show the years in which events occurred, although their effects may extend into later years.
