A coordinated plan broke the inflation spiral ↗ — Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)
After inflation approached 450 percent in 1984, the July 1985 stabilization program combined a large devaluation with price and wage controls, fiscal tightening and restrictive monetary policy. Inflation fell sharply after August.
- 2002↕ Mixed effects
A mid-year rate rise stopped the depreciation ↗ — Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)
In 2002, a rapid shekel depreciation raised inflation well above target. The Bank of Israel's June interest-rate increase halted the depreciation and brought price growth to a near standstill in the second half of the year.
- 2022↑ Upward pressure
Global supply shocks met strong local demand ↗ — Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)
Global supply-chain, energy and food shocks raised prices as Israel emerged from the pandemic. Strong domestic demand added to inflation, while domestic natural-gas supply made the increase milder than in many peer economies.
These are selected historical influences, not a complete account of inflation. An upward-pressure event can coincide with a peak when its inflationary effect has already occurred or when other forces begin pushing inflation lower. The markers show the years in which events occurred, although their effects may extend into later years.
